My root canal has failed, what should I do?
If a previous root canal treatment has failed, generally there are two choices. The tooth can be re-root canal treated. Retreatment root canal therapy is a procedure performed to address issues that arise after an initial root canal treatment. It's needed when there's infection or inflammation in the tooth after the initial treatment, often due to new decay, cracks, or incomplete removal of infected tissue during the first procedure. Alternatively, the tooth can be extracted and a replacment provided in the form or an implant/bridge or denture if desired.
